As a teenager, Jermel began the practice of writing his thoughts in diaries. Although he found writing to be challenging, he enjoyed expressing his ideas in this format. While working in Virginia, he joined a local writer’s group to learn about creative writing as a hobby. During his engineering career, he documented his experiences with racial job discrimination. He would later use this information to publish his first book, A New Perspective on Race related Problems in Corporate American Companies.
Motivated by the publishing of his first book and his interest in the psychology of human behavior, Jermel began to explore writing other books to address social, racial, and political issues. These were issues that he developed a strong interest is from being raised in Jamaica and later reinforced from his residence in Canada and the US.
